Fox-97

when dennis winslow first brought me to Atlanta (from Denver), he had me build promos from out-of-state voicetracks. I tried to be as creative as possible, but this was new to me. up to then I’d voiced almost all of my production. this exercised a brand new muscle in my skill set. I began to like it.
fox-97 was shaking off a sleepy adult format and aiming at energetic rock oldies. this was aimed at that audience.
another audience focused promo. Note this was ’80-’81 and digital had not yet come to radio. i had to create all those effects with analog recording tape, razor blades, and splicing tape. later I included a Korg MS-10 synthesizer.
dennis sat me down and asked what type of specialty radio show would I like to do on Sunday nights. as I have much love and respect for wolfman jack, I chose a Doo Wop show which dennis named ‘the doo wop cafe’. the ratings went from obscurity to number two in the market!
